The Virtual Shoe Box

This virtual shoe box is waiting to be filled with pre-1990 photos. These photographs can be official team, action, celebration or any other type of photo taken before 1990, which has to do with Thornleigh Sports and Recreation Club. We would greatly appreciate your contributions, so if you have any old dusty photos lying around, you can share them with us in one of 3 ways : -

1. Upload the links to your photos yourself by following the instructions below
2. Scan and email your photos to the webmaster, who will store them on our hosting company's server and upload the links for you
3. If you don't have access to a scanner, email the webmaster to organize for her to borrow your photos and do this for you

Note : Photo files displayed on this page should be in .jpg format, preferably no more than 400-500 pixels along their longer dimension, and compressed to keep the files under 80 kb or so. The files can be kept on any server (normally your Internet Service Provider) connected to the Internet. This page works with the URLs (uniform resource locators) of the photos and downloads them from their sources as required.

Instructions for Using the Virtual Shoe Box

• Click on the lid of the box to rummage around in the pile of old photos. Unfortunately the box is rodent-and-cockroach infested, but you can sometimes get rid of the pests by clicking on them. As a last resort, simply click on "ESCAPE".
• The photos, with captions at the bottom, may not display properly on initial download. Give them a bit of time or click on 'Update' to correct this.
• The photos can be dragged around the screen by holding down the left mouse-button.(Hint: Don't drag too quickly.)
• Click on a photo to bring it to the top of the pile. Shift-click to send it to the bottom.
• To add a new photo, change the URL of the 'new picture' icon to the URL of the new photo you want to show. To do this, double-click on the icon, enter the URL and double-click on the icon again. If the icon is not visible, click on any blank area of the browser window. This will cause the icon to appear below the 'Update' button. Updating will generate another 'new picture' icon. If you accidentally type in a URL which doesn't exist and you see a small box with a red cross in it, don't click "Update". Simply double-click on it again and enter a valid URL. Then click on "Update". Alternatively you can simply refresh the page (F5) and the current contents of the database will be displayed.
• Double-click on a photo to edit its URL. Change the URL on the input line which appears, and double-click on the photo again to enter the information. Please only edit the URL of photos which you have contributed (not someone else's). If you accidentally type in a URL which doesn't exist and you see a small box with a red cross in it, don't click "Update". Simply double-click on it again and enter a valid URL. Then click on "Update". Alternatively you can simply refresh the page (F5) and the current contents of the database will be displayed.
• To delete a photo, replace its URL with 'newpic.gif'. Please only delete the URL of photos which you have contributed (not someone else's).
• To edit a caption, double-click on it, do your editing, then double-click on it again. Feel free to change any captions to add names of players or a suitable caption.
• To minimize possible database conflicts with other users, please refresh the page (F5) just before you make a change and click 'Update' as soon as you have finished making the change.
• Whenever you click on 'Update', this information is updated according to the current display in your browser window.
